Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Morning Press ("we", "us", or "our") is an iOS application that helps you build daily habits and finish what you start. We're an indie team and we take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, please contact us.

By downloading or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly

During onboarding, we ask a series of questions to personalise the App and to understand who is using it. If you choose to answer, we collect:

  • Your first name (optional — used to greet you in the App).
  • Your age range (e.g., "25 to 34").
  • Your gender.
  • The goal categories you're interested in.
  • Your focus area, motivation, answers about procrastination, preferred timing, and daily commitment.
  • Whether you enabled push notifications.

If you contact us through the support form on this website, we also receive your name, email address, the issue category you selected, and the contents of your message.

Information automatically collected

When you use the App, our analytics provider records anonymous usage events to help us understand how the App is used. These events include:

  • App opens and onboarding screen views.
  • Conversion milestones such as paywall views and trial starts.
  • Key actions such as creating a project, creating a habit, completing a task, and completing a habit.
  • Basic device context: your platform (iOS), the App's version, your device locale (e.g., "en-US"), and your IANA timezone (e.g., "America/New_York").
  • Standard analytics metadata captured by our analytics provider, including your device's IP address, operating system version, and device model.

All of this is tied to a randomly generated anonymous identifier created on your device — not to your Apple ID, email address, advertising ID, or any account with us (we do not operate an account system).

Information stored locally on your device

The following information is stored only on your iPhone, inside the App's secure sandbox, and is never transmitted to our servers:

  • Your projects, tasks, and notes.
  • Your habits and completion history.
  • Your streaks and login dates.
  • Your theme, character, and notification time preferences.
  • Your subscription state (trial start/end dates, selected plan).

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the App on your device.
  • To personalise your experience — for example, greeting you by name and suggesting starter ideas based on the categories you selected.
  • To send push notifications you have opted into.
  • To understand how people use the App in aggregate, identify problems, and decide what to improve.
  • To measure conversion from onboarding into the free trial and paid subscription.
  • To respond to messages you send us through the support form.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, marketing profiling, or any automated decision that produces a legal or similarly significant effect on you. We do not sell or rent your data to anyone.

4. Third-Party Services

We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate the App. Each one is named below with what it does and what information it receives.

Supabase

Purpose: Backend database for storing onboarding responses linked to your anonymous identifier.

Data shared: Anonymous identifier, first name (if provided), age range, gender, goal categories, focus, motivation, procrastination answer, timing, daily commitment, notifications-enabled flag, platform, app version, locale, and timezone.

Privacy policy: supabase.com/privacy

PostHog

Purpose: Anonymous product analytics. We use PostHog to understand which features people use, where they drop off in onboarding, and how the App performs over time.

Data shared: Anonymous identifier, the event names and properties listed in Section 2, and standard analytics metadata that PostHog captures automatically (IP address, OS version, device model). We do not record screen replays or capture session videos.

Privacy policy: posthog.com/privacy

Apple

Purpose: App Store distribution, in-app purchases (Pro subscription and free trial), and push notification delivery.

Data shared: Apple handles your subscription billing using your Apple ID. We never see or store your Apple ID, payment information, or billing address — we only receive an anonymous event noting which plan you selected and whether you started the trial.

Privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy

Web3Forms

Purpose: Delivery of messages sent through the contact form on this website.

Data shared: Your name, email address, selected issue category, and message contents are forwarded through Web3Forms to our inbox. This applies only to the website contact form, not to the App itself.

Privacy policy: web3forms.com/privacy

5. Data Retention

Different categories of data are kept for different periods:

  • Locally stored content (projects, habits, streaks): kept on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. We have no copy.
  • Onboarding responses (in Supabase): retained for as long as the App is in active development, so we can measure long-term trends. You can request deletion at any time.
  • Anonymous analytics events (in PostHog): retained per PostHog's default retention policy (typically 12 months).
  • Support messages (in our email inbox): kept for as long as needed to handle your request and any related follow-up, generally up to 24 months.

6. Data Security

All data sent from the App to our backend and analytics provider is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS). Supabase encrypts stored data at rest on industry-standard cloud infrastructure. While we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Regardless of where you live, you can ask us to:

  • Access the data we hold linked to your anonymous identifier.
  • Correct any inaccurate information.
  • Delete your data.
  • Export a copy of your data in a portable format.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.

To exercise any of these rights, please reach us through the contact form. Because we identify you only by an anonymous identifier stored on your device, you may need to share that identifier with us (you can find it in the App's Settings) so we can locate the right records. We will respond within 30 days.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is intended for users aged 13 and older (or the minimum age of digital consent in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

9. Push Notifications

The App can send you reminders and encouragement through push notifications if you opt in during onboarding or enable them later in Settings. Notifications are scheduled locally on your device using iOS's notification system — we do not push them from a server, and they are not used to send marketing messages. You can disable notifications at any time from your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Morning Press.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we'll do our best to also surface a notice in the App. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

11. European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) gives you specific rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access (Article 15)
  • Right to rectification (Article 16)
  • Right to erasure / "right to be forgotten" (Article 17)
  • Right to restriction of processing (Article 18)
  • Right to data portability (Article 20)
  • Right to object (Article 21)

Our legal basis for processing your onboarding responses and analytics events is legitimate interest — specifically, the need to understand how the App is used so we can improve it. You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interest at any time.

Our service providers (Supabase, PostHog) may process data outside your country of residence — including in the United States. They participate in recognised transfer mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for international data transfers from the EU.

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.

12. California Users (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you the right to:

  • Know what personal information we have collected about you.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • Be free from discrimination for exercising your rights.

We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. We do not knowingly collect or sell the personal information of minors under 16.

13. Cookie Policy

The App does not use cookies. This website uses only essential cookies required for basic functionality (such as remembering form input) and does not set tracking, analytics, or advertising cookies.

14. Contact Us

If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your data, please contact us.
